More Die from Drugs than Traffic Accidents

New Hampshire Dept of Justice chart of deaths from Traffic and Drugs

In 16 states, more people now die of drug overdoses than traffic accidents.  Increased prescription drug use is the culprit.

Oregon, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Colorado, Utah, Nevada,  Connecticut and Washington top the list of drug deaths.

According to researcher Caleb Banta-Green of the University of Washington, overdose deaths usually result from inappropriate use of prescription opioids along with alcohol or other drugs such as benzodiazepines (Valium or Xanax). About the victims, he says
