Miley Cyrus: “We Can’t Stop” Taking Drugs?

Twenty-year-old Miley Cyrus’s risky behavior is not new to anyone who listens to the radio or keeps up with celebrity news. After shedding her Disney persona “Hannah Montana,” Miss Cyrus has been proving to the public in a variety of ways that she is not a child star on Disney anymore.

The latest whistle being blown? Miley’s controversial new party anthem “We Can’t Stop” that was released on Monday, June 3; a song that sings “trying to do a line in the bathroom” and “shaking it like we at a strip club.”

Those aren’t the only lyrics in “We Can’t Stop” that are raising eyebrows. In Miley’s song, it sounds like she sings, “We like to party. Dancing with ‘Molly’.”

Molly is the nickname for MDMA, the purest form of ecstasy, an illegal drug that that is widely used at dance clubs, music festivals, and parties.

According to TMZ, a representative for Mike WiLL Made It, the producer of “We Can’t Stop,” told the celebrity website that the song lyrics were a simple misunderstanding, and claims that the lyric actually is “Dancing with Miley.”

Listeners of Miley’s new song, however, aren’t convinced:

Miley Cyrus's new song "We Can't Stop" causes confusion with song lyrics eluding to drug references.

Does We Can’t Stop say Dancing with Molly or Dancing with Miley?

The representative had no comment on whether the lyric “trying to do a line in the bathroom” was a reference to cocaine or not, according to TMZ.

Drug references are not unusual in lyrics, but since Miley Cyrus used to be Hannah Montana, a Disney tween with a fan base comprised mostly of impressionable young girls, eyebrows raise.

Even though Miley and her fan base are young women now, she still is a celebrity and her actions still are seen by an impressionable group. Not to mention, the clubbing and partying Miley is singing about, is still illegal for the under-21 singer.

Is Miley trying to be like Madonna? In 2012, Madonna released an album named “MDNA”,  which sounds very much like MDMA, the popular dance club drug. At the Ultra Music Festival when she asked the audience onstage “How many of you have seen Molly?” –  a clear reference to the drug. When challenged by mega-popular DJ deadmau5 and others for attracting negative attention to the electronic music scene, Madonna claimed MDNA stood for “Madonna.”
