Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman just got cleaned up (again) after a self-reported 23 years of sobriety. After a 10 day detox at an east coast detox center, Hoffman told celebrity site TMZ about his return to prescription pills and fall back into drug addiction. He reported he was snorting heroin before he went in to drug detox.

Hoffman has plenty of experience with drugs and alcohol, and has provided detailed accounts of his early career days and extensive drug use. According to TMZ’s report of the conversation with Hoffman this week, he knew this time when he got “out of control” and he recognized that snorting heroin had to stop. He checked himself into substance abuse treatment (detox). His comments suggest he has a strong support system already in place with his friends and family.

In 2006 Hoffman spoke candidly about his early drug and alcohol use, and how his stint in rehab saved his career and probably his life.
